Name: Kristen Mariotti
What do you do at Cheshire Academy? I am an Associate Director of Admission. I get to meet, interview, and work with prospective students through their application process. I am also an advisor to six 10th graders.
Where are some of the places you’ve lived? New Haven, CT, Tucson, AZ, Baltimore, MD, and now Southington, CT!
What attracted you to work at Cheshire Academy? I have always known that CA is a special place, with great academics and other opportunities (I grew up a few towns away!) but what really attracted me to the school is the warmth and friendliness of the community and the fact that everyone is welcomed. I am also very happy to work in such a global community. Most people don’t get to talk to people from over 20 countries on a daily basis!
What do you look for in an applicant? To me, the most important attribute of an applicant is the ability to make a positive impact on our community which I can usually sense from the interview and teacher recommendations. Good grades and writing skills are very important to me, too!
Are there any creative applicants or essays that have stood out to you before? One time I was interviewing a young lady over Skype and she did a whole musical performance for me to showcase her amazing voice!
What are some of your classic interview questions for prospective students? What unique qualities would you bring to the Cheshire community? What are three words you would use to describe yourself? If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and who would you bring?
What advice would you give to students before an interview? Be yourself. Don’t be embarrassed to brag about yourself and your accomplishments a little bit. Know some things about the school. Dress nicely. Ask lots of questions!
What are three fun facts about you?
1. I love to cook meals for everyone I know, but I am a terrible baker!
2. I have ridden a bike across the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
3. I married my husband, Chris, on Leap Day (February 29th) which only comes every four years!
