Miura Wiley, current eighth grader at Dodd Middle School, was informed on March 7 of the award at a surprise presentation at her home that included the school’s current Town Scholars, the school mascot (our very own Fighting Cat!) and Admission Office representatives! An exceptionally strong student with many varied interests ranging from soccer to the diversity club, Miura has maintained a straight-A record throughout middle school, while also taking on higher-level courses in math. Outside of the classroom, Miura enjoys chorus, having previously been selected for the Connecticut Music Educators Association All-State choir. She is a member of the National Junior Honor Society and serves as a student advocate at Dodd. Notably, Miura currently plays on a premier soccer team for the Connecticut Football Club and participated in the Olympic Development Program. In addition to soccer, Miura plays lacrosse for the Cheshire Town travel team as well as ice hockey for the Wallingford Hawks. Miura’s commitment to community service was also a stand-out attribute in her application for the Town Scholar award: volunteering with her book club at the Cheshire Public Library book drive last fall; fundraising for the Mia Hamm Foundation and Humane Society; and participating in “Rachel’s Challenge,” a group formed by students and educators to promote kindness and compassion through demonstration at school. Welcome to CA, Miura!
Live in Cheshire, CT and want to apply for next year? The Cheshire Academy Town Scholarship was established in 1937 and is open to students entering the ninth grade. The top Town Scholar candidate receives a full, day-student scholarship and four runner-up candidates receive partial scholarships to attend Cheshire Academy for four years. For scholarship consideration, candidates must be residents of Cheshire for a minimum of one year. Selection for the award is based on scholarship, citizenship, leadership, and the potential to contribute positively both to the Academy and to the greater community. Good luck!
